Principal’s Corner – December 14

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.  Last week we administered the City’s Periodic Assessment for ELA and Math, to all students.  The data will be analyzed to identify trends of what students know, what they should know and what can be done to meet their academic needs.  I know it seems as though we have been administering a lot of exams.  Please remember that assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the individual student goals are being met.  Assessment affects decisions about grades, placement, advancement, curriculum and the instructional needs of our school.  I ask that you have a conversation with your child about assessment and the feedback that is given to support their learning.

We only have one and a half weeks left with students for the month of December.  There is so much work to complete and we have not had enough time with the students.  All students will receive a vacation package, for every class.  Please make sure your child completes his/her vacation package as this grade will be included for the second marking period.  Assignments are due when we return on January 4, 2016.  Late assignments will not be accepted.  Please understand that we are trying to prepare our students for college and they must be responsible for submitting their work on time.

We will be hosting our Winter Social Dance this week.  This dance is our way of affording son’s and daughter’s more quality time with their parents.  This event will be held on Friday the 18th of December from 5-8pm.  The dress attire is semi-formal.  Please come out and join us for some food, music and dancing.

Letters are going out this week for any student that is at risk of failing for the second marking period.  Conferences must be scheduled to establish an action plan to ensure your child’s success.  Please contact Mrs. Ovalles to schedule an appointment with Professors, as soon as possible.

Attendance is crucial to student achievement and promotion.  Please make certain that your child attends school everyday.

Ms. Jean Colon, Principal, I.A.
