I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. This week, we will continue with our next round of incentive trips: Dave and Busters, Madame Tussauds, Ripley’s, MoMath, Pizza Studio. These school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) trips are based on continuum of positive behavior support for all students within the school, including the classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, cafeteria, buses, and restrooms). Our goal is to decrease disruption, increase instructional time, and improve student social behavior and academic outcomes, which will essentially lead to positive school climate.
Our last Student-led conference will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4:30 – 7:30pm. Students must attend Student-Led Conference with parents. As you may already know, our professors facilitate the meeting, but the student is leading the conversation. Please keep in mind that ELA and Math state exam scores only reserve as a baseline to demonstrate the scholar’s acquired knowledge this school year. Results will not be in it’s entirety when we receive a preliminary list in June. Since we will not receive specific exam levels in time for promotional decisions, it is absolutely crucial that the class grades and portfolio assist in these decisions. Attendance is also important, please make certain your child is in school and on time.
I am very proud to announce that we have received the Leader In Me Grant. The Leader In Me is a school-wide program that helps improve test scores, while shifting the mindset of all stakeholders in order to create positive change in a school. In addition, KAPPA III has been selected as a site school for teacher training next year. This means that we will have student teachers and train them for the entire year. Last week, we were awarded a Respect For All school by the NYC Department of Education due to our commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
We will hold nominations and elections for PTA during Student-Led conferences on May 18, 2017 at 5:30pm. Please be in attendance and support of PTA because your voice is important to us.
