KAPPA III Principal’s Corner – December 19

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.  This week we are administering an assessment for ELA and Math, to all students (Monday-Wednesday we will administer the ELA exam and on Thursday we will administer the math exam.)  The data will be analyzed to identify trends of what students know, what they should know and what can be done to meet their academic needs.  Please remember that assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the individual student goals are being met.  Assessment affects decisions about grades, placement, advancement, curriculum and the instructional needs of our school.  I ask that you have a conversation with your child about assessments and the feedback that is given to support their learning.

This is our last week with students for the month of December.  There is so much work to complete and we have not had enough time with the students.  All students will receive a vacation package, for every class.  Make sure your child completes his/her vacation package as this grade will be included for the second marking period.  Assignments are due when we return on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.   Late assignments will not be accepted without a discussion/ meeting with a parent, please note, late assignments will not receive full credit.  Understand that we are trying to prepare our students for college and they must be responsible for submitting their work on time.

We hosted our first Glow Dance on Friday.  This dance was our way of rewarding students for excellent behavior and uniform.  We will continue to use this incentive for our next dance which will be held in April.  I would like to thank Ms. Matthews for making this event special for the entire community.  I would also like to thank the Professors for their support.

Letters are going out this week for any student that is at risk of failing for the second marking period.  Conferences must be scheduled to establish an action plan to ensure your child’s success.  Please contact Mrs. Ovalles to schedule an appointment with Professors, as soon as possible.

Attendance is crucial to student achievement and promotion.  Please make certain that your child attends school everyday.  Remember, there is no afterschool on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.  From our family to yours, I wish you peace and joy this holiday season.

Respectfully,

Ms. Jean Colon, Principal
